The unofficial/official HAGI topic!
Re: The unofficial/official HAGI topic!
This is another of the "controversial Hagi bought through this ebay seller. If you like Seigan and you like his blue, you will love this one. Almost 4" wide, shallow, nice for when it is hot!
What's not to love ...

Donned "tempest" for its stormy appearance and the problems with this seller ...

That's a great wan Chip! Love the color. I bought one too from this seller but it's darker blue. I'm having a hard time photographing it.

Thanks, this one seems pretty photogenic even for my less stellar photo skillz.

Here's mine, but I really couldn't capture it very well.
It is way glossy and reflective.

Nice Victoria!
Oribe! Yet another from this suspect ebay seller. I have seen Seigan Oribe, and it does resemble this one.

No tea in this one yet ...

New Seigan from Magokorodo. Have not used it yet, but will soon. I am a little surprised by the piece as it is much heavier that anticipated. Feel like the foot area could have been trimmed out a bit more. Polar opposite to one of the Seigan SOs I received which is feather light.

Thanks CP! That is quite striking!
Interesting observation and brings out the subtle differences in larger kiln production runs and very limited and special runs such as the SOs. Sometimes it is hard to really point out point by point why the SOs are often made to be superior ... hopefully.
A good case and point ... the Deishi Biwa wans. After we did the SO, I was shocked to see the Biwa pop up on a few sites considering we built it as a collaborative project from the ground up, it did not previously exist as it was presented for the SO.
Then a bunch of somewhat lesser examples began showing up. They were nice, but they were not as nice as the very limited runs of the SO.
After a 7 month layoff in the Hagi SO projects, perhaps it is time ............

Beautiful, congrats! I think when the items are called "rough sand" that coarser sand is added to the clay and that may account for the weight.

*laugh* I haven't had much time to browse the board lately except for the pu'erh board, but today I thought, "I wonder what happened to all that hagi madness..."
So now I know....!
I never got around to buying any, but maybe this time around. Maybe a hagi chawan...??

I hope you can join this round ... still a ways off.
The long planned next Hagi SO is a completely experimental piece that has given the artisan troubles. The prototype was a complete accident. Recreating the accident has not yielded the desired results ... this is common for potters I hear.
One more try!
