While I believe there is some value to TCM, I don't buy into everything espoused by it. TWM either. Are you saying citrus juice as a whole is damaging, or just when combined with tea?

mayayo wrote:Well, according to TCM the spleen provides energy to the heart. Citrus juic weakens the spleen, hence the heart is weakened. When the heart is not pumping blood strongly, the overall blood circulation naturally gets sluggish and causes blood stagnation, and the main organ affected by that is the liver (while the heart is the king or supreme commander over all body-mind functions, TCM describes the liver as the general or long-range planner).

If you are so concerned about health don't ruin the benefits of green tea (excellent for the liver due to its affinity to it...green, spring, movement) by adding a health damaging substance.

Avoid citrus juice and raw food in general as it exhausts the digestive fire affecting the spleen (cooking pot). During hot months this rule can be more relaxed but still not abused.

Everything is yin and yang; one's health will suffer and illness will develop if the balance of the two is upset.

I don't think it's fair to called citrus juices health damaging just because of one drawback. You could probably make a case against air if you thought like that.

Well you are talking to a Taoist and my point of view differs from yours. If you want to consume citrus juice go ahead, but I won't. Each to their own.

PD: Why would you ruin the beatiful taste of tea by adding an alien substance, i.e. citrus juice?

Why ruin perfectly good water by throwing leaves in it?
There is some thinking (in the West) that citrus juice actually aids in the assimilation of key nutrients in tea. But as you say, to each their own. :)

I add pure lemon or lime juice to my tea when I am not feeling well because of allergies or a cold...I´ll usually do it with a weaker later infusion or tea that is good but not expensive so I don´t feel like I am wasting tea by adulterating it...it´s mostly a way of making the lemon juice easier to drink. My personal experience is that drinking citrus juice or eating citrus fruit eases sinus irritation.

I'm not sure where you are getting your info from but citrus, like lemon or lime, is a known liver cleaner which promotes healthy liver function. I've never heard of lemon weakening the spleen unless there is a problem with the stomach not being able to handle the acidic juice. While everything is connected to everything, Spleen/Stomach and healthy liver function are very key to good blood supply. Saying citrus is health damaging is contrary to everything I've read about TCM and other health practices.

There is no need to consume citrus juice regularly. Period. Doing a liver cleanse using lemon juice is done in order to treat liver Qi stagnation, and has got nothing to do with the topic of discussion. Don't argue with me.

I thought a forum like this was open to the free exchange of ideas, even if we don't agree.

Same as you, living in a dream ;) No need for citrus juice outside, so don't make a big deal out of it.
